MAJOR GIFTS OFFICER

Job Summary

The Major Gifts Officer will identify, engage, cultivate, solicit and steward current and prospective major donors with the goal of expanding their financial support. Officer will be responsible for meeting an annual revenue target by working with an assigned portfolio of donors, developing new prospects to advance our mission, and assisting donors to bring enhanced meaning into their lives through agency support. Officer will be data fluent to successfully leverage our database, strategically and consistently manage major donor outreach, assess donors giving capacity and implement using our management software.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Raise funds for the organization: develop ongoing relationships with current major donors and prospects; develop and cultivate new relationships with individual and corporate prospects that support food insecurity, hunger, nutrition, medicine, poverty, homelessness and LGBTQ platforms.
  • Responsible for minimum annual fundraising goals including both renewable gifts and incremental revenue.
  • Develop and execute ongoing strategies for qualifying and elevating prospects; encourage donors to become Circle of Angels members and manage member fulfillment and recognition.
  • Qualify prospects and elevate them to donor status through small cultivation events, research and community networking; 30% of portfolio is expected to be newly sourced by Major Gifts Officer.
  • Design customized solicitation strategies targeting organization objectives and maintain daily donor records in database following donor contact.
  • Create and maintain monthly reports that outline fundraising commitments and prepare private and public acknowledgments to thank donors.
  • Participate in agency signature events and cultivation activities, and recommend qualified donors to meet with Executive Director and Director of Philanthropy.
  • Meet with other members of the organization to ensure that objectives and initiatives align.
  • Meet regularly with Director of Philanthropy to review ongoing donor identification, gift procurement strategies, and stewardship and cultivation efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities

  • A solid understanding of finance and budgeting; ability to forecast and track revenue and expenses.
  • Persuasive and compassionate communicator, with excellent written and verbal communication skills; a solid grammarian with proven ability to compose successful fundraising content.
  • Sets organization goals, exhibits strong planning skills and successfully executes multiple tasks at once.
  • Extensive database experience, familiarity with Raiser’s Edge NXT platforms preferred.
  • Someone who is energized, motivated by, and passionate about, Project Angel Food’s mission of providing nutritious food, love, and comfort to people who are critically ill.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required: public relations, communications, finance or related field is preferred. Combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum five years of successful major gifts leadership experience.
  • Proven experience in the development and implementation of fundraising by personally making contacts, cultivating and effectively closing major gifts.
  • Verifiable history of consistently raising funds at major levels of support.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

The Administrative Assistant works half-time for the Executive Director and half-time for the Human Resources Department, providing administrative and clerical support to each. This position reports to both the Executive Director and the Administrative Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative and clerical support in a highly organized manner, including but not limited to:
  • Collecting and analyzing data
  • Preparing drafts of correspondence, transcription, PowerPoint presentations, spreadsheets, reports (i.e., travel & expense reimbursements, check requests, memos, etc.)
  • Attending meetings and taking notes as required
  • Completing analysis of assigned projects
  • Sets up meetings and schedule appointments for the Executive Director
  • Maintains the Executive Director’s contact files
  • Acts as the executive liaison between the Executive Director and Board of Directors including confidential and routine communications
  • Assists in preparation of materials through the year for Board of Directors meetings (one retreat, five regular meetings, twelve monthly Finance Committee meetings and other special meetings as needed)
  • Reconciles invoices for employee insurance coverage and prepares payment requests for insurance and other bills
  • Assists in maintaining personnel records and other files in Human Resources office
  • Prepares past employee records for scanning and electronic storage
  • Gathers paperwork and tracks enrollment for employee health, dental and vision insurance
  • Distributes and posts legally required notices to employees
  • Tracks required employee COVID testing results
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Human Resources Management or similar field; equivalent experience will be considered
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Experience with MS Office,(Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with videoconferencing programs
  • Familiarity with payroll programs
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to respect confidentiality regarding Human Resources and management information
  • Ability to work independently and with others and exercise sound judgment
  • Attention to detail
  • Reliable transportation

Salary

$20.00 an hour

Terms and Benefits

  • Full-time, non-exempt position
  • Vacation accrual rate is 2.88 hours per pay period or 2 weeks per year for the first 5years of employment, 4.33 hours per pay period or 3 weeks per year after 5years of employment.
  • Sick Time accrual rate is 3.46 hours per pay period or 12 days per year.
  • Employer-paid HMO coverage and $20,000 life insurance policy, with optional dental, vision, AFLAC insurance, and 403(b) and Credit Union. Eligible the first of the month after 60 days employment

GRANT WRITER - PART TIME

 Project Angel Food prepares and delivers healthy meals to feed people impacted by serious illness, bringing comfort and hope every day. The Grant Writer position is responsible for writing and submitting private and public grants, including letters of intent and reports for Project Angel Food. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional interested in elevating the profile, reach and sustainability of the Project Angel Food brand. The Grant Writer reports to the Director of Institutional Giving and Strategic Partnerships.

Responsibilities

1.   Research, identify and qualify funding opportunities from foundation, corporations and government sources.

2.   Develop and submit interim and final grant reports and other written materials as required by the funder.

3.   Write, edit and proofread grant proposals, according to format required, and submit proposal to funding agency or foundation based on deadline.

4.   Discuss program requirements and sources with Director and program team to work out details of proposals.

5.   Oversee and track donor hard files and electronic tracking system, including the grants calendar.

6.   Write and manage acknowledgements for corporate and foundation donors.

7.   Develop A deep understanding of program content, collecting and synthesizing information about Project Angel Food and the industry as needed to make the strongest case for support.

8.   Work with programs teams to develop analyses of program outcomes that enhance case for support.

9.   Help develop collateral materials for foundation and government grants and contracts.  

10.  Contribute to marketing aspects Coffee-for-service partnerships.

11.  Correspond with prospective funders, when necessary, for more information on deadlines, priorities and requirements.

12.  Assist with grant writing projects for the Capital Campaign.

13.  Participate in staff, fundraising, and/or other agency meetings as requested.

14.  Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1.   Bachelor’s degree required with at least 5 years of professional and/or equivalent experience, including writing grants to government entities, program grants, capacity building grants, general operating grants.

2.   Superb writing, editing and communication skills, eye for detail and follow-through.

3.   Excellent computer and presentation skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe)including knowledge of donor database.

4.   Highly organized, self-motivated and creative.

5.   Ability to present data in a compelling manner.

6.   Experience in analyzing quantitative and qualitative data is a plus.

7.   Experience in preparing budgets and financial reports.

8.   Ability to handle multiple tasks under varying time constraints.

9.   Customer service orientation in dealing with donors; displaying professionalism and highlevel of business acumen at times.

10.  Experience working/volunteering in a hunger relief/food policy organization a plus.

11.  Willingness and desire to work with a diverse team of staff and volunteers.

12.  Ability to work evenings/weekends and attend events as needed.

13.  Commitment to continuous process improvement.

  • Keep accurate records of mileage, hours and other Dispatch paperwork

  • Valid California driver’s license, clean driving record, proof of insurance, experience driving and reliable transportation

  • Sensitivity to persons suffering with various critical illnesses
