Project Angel Food’s Rise to the Challenge campaign is transforming our ability to serve seriously ill people throughout Los Angeles County — today and for generations to come.
At the heart of this historic expansion is The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation Kitchen & Campus, a two-building campus spanning 922 and 960 Vine St.
The first building — our new Kitchen and Operations Center — opened in Feb. 2026, completing Phase I of the project. Now, we are moving forward with Phase II: the Community Outreach Center, which will bring together the people, programs, education and research that complement the medically tailored meals prepared next door.
$55.5 Million Campaign Goal
$53.1 Million Raised to Date
Four Pillars. One Vision.
Rise to the Challenge was built around four priorities that will shape the future of Project Angel Food.
1. Double the Space. Triple the Meals.
For decades, Project Angel Food operated from a kitchen built for a much smaller organization. As the number of people turning to us for help grew, we simply outgrew our home.
The new Kitchen and Operations Center more than doubles our culinary footprint — from approximately 7,700 to 16,000 square feet — and gives us the capacity to grow from 1.5 million to more than 4.5 million medically tailored meals annually.
That increased capacity is built into every part of the new kitchen: one hot cook line has become three, with 90 burners and 21 ovens, along with expanded chilling, packing, freezer and dry-storage capacity.
Just as important, the new facility significantly strengthens our ability to respond in an emergency. Expanded storage allows us to grow from approximately a two-day frozen meal reserve to as much as three weeks, helping protect clients from service disruptions caused by disasters, pandemics and other emergencies.
2. Expand Client and Nutrition Services
Food Is Medicine means more than preparing the right meal. It means surrounding that meal with individualized nutrition care, education and support.
The Community Outreach Center at 960 Vine St. will provide expanded space for Client Services and Nutrition Services, giving our teams greater capacity to support the complex needs of the people we serve.
A new teaching kitchen will offer nutrition-focused culinary education for clients, caregivers, community members, local schools and other Food Is Medicine organizations. In-person programs and video content will provide practical skills clients can use while receiving our services and help support greater self-reliance when they are ready to transition from them.
3. Advance Food Is Medicine Through Research and Policy
Project Angel Food has seen the impact of medically tailored meals firsthand for more than three decades. The next step is strengthening the evidence behind that work.
The Community Outreach Center will be home to a Research and Policy Institute dedicated to studying outcomes, building partnerships and advancing the understanding of medically tailored nutrition as an integral component of health care.
The vision extends beyond Project Angel Food: to help demonstrate what becomes possible when nutrition is recognized as part of treating serious illness.
4. Grow Our Community of Volunteers
Volunteers have powered Project Angel Food since our earliest days.
Phase I created the Jamie Lee Curtis and Christopher Guest Kitchen Volunteer Center, dedicated to Richard Frank and George Lowe, providing an expanded home for the thousands of volunteers who help prepare and package meals each year.
Phase II will expand Volunteer Services even further, creating additional opportunities to welcome individuals, community organizations and corporate partners into our mission.
Expanding Project Angel Food is not simply about building more space. It is about building a larger community around the people we serve.

$53.1 Million Raised. $55.5 Million Goal.
Rise to the Challenge began with a simple reality: Los Angeles was changing, the need was growing, and Project Angel Food needed to grow with it.
Today, that transformation is well underway. The Kitchen and Operations Center is open and producing meals. The Community Outreach Center is next.
Together, they represent an investment in the future of Project Angel Food, the future of Food Is Medicine, and the health of the community we have served since 1989.
