Let's work together to improve health and speed recovery for critically ill residents of Los Angeles through the power of partnerships and customized nutrition. Project Angel Food specializes in providing tailored meals and nutrition education to those with critical illnesses.

As part of California's Cal-AIM initiative, since 2022, we've expanded our reach in offering medically tailored meals for critical illness care. With 34 years of experience, we're nationally recognized, including by Harvard Law and Gastropod podcast, and have served over 1,000 patients in two years, partnering with insurers like Anthem, Blue Shield Promise, Health Net, L.A. Care Health Plan, and Molina Healthcare and Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan. Our program, which includes meals crafted by professional chefs and registered dietitians and nutrition education, has reduced health care costs, improved health outcomes, and increased patient satisfaction

Luke's story

Luke has diabetes and has lost 75% of his kidney function, therefore his diet is balanced with clean protein, healthy carbs, and lots of leafy greens. He was referred to Project Angel Food by his LA Care Health Plan nutritionist and says even his doctors are astonished at the results and he credits Project Angel Food’s medically tailored meals, provided by generous donors like you, for preventing him from going on dialysis.

WHAT OUR clients ARE SAYING

Luke M., L.A. Care Health Plan

WHAT OUR PARTNERS ARE SAYING

"As a provider of medically tailored meals to Health Net members, Project Angel Food was a lead presenter at our recent “find help” networking event in Los Angeles. That event focused on creating an expanded referral pathway that links our members with local providers who offer comprehensive, wrap-around services going beyond traditional medicine and mental health services. Project Angel Food continues to build relationships with other CalAIM Community Supports and Enhanced Care Management providers with the aim of further expanding a sustainable referral pathway for our members. Ultimately, this model supports better health outcomes for our members as they receive assistance to overcome social and other barriers to good health."
Nancy Wongvipat Kalev, Senior Director, Systems of Care, Health Net
"Project Angel Food is doing a wonderful job building the proof needed to gain more state and federal funding for medically tailored meals for the most vulnerable in our community."
John Baackes, CEO, L.A. Care Health Plan
“I’ve known Project Angel Food as a fellow Angeleno myself and have read their amazing work even before working together. The magic that this institution has is visible in their overall work via meal prepping the meals, the staff, volunteers and most importantly within their members receiving the help. I have experienced this on a first-hand basis, as I helped deliver holiday meals on Thanksgiving day. The love felt on this day was true magic!.”
Monica Cotom, ECM Program Manager, St. John’s Community Health

Thank you to L.A. Care Health Plan, Molina Healthcare, Health Net, Anthem, and Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan for their support!
