Loni Love (The Real)

Megan Hilty, Dashing in December stars Peter Porte and Juan Pablo Di Pace, Loni Love, celebrity chef Stuart O’Keeffe, LA City Councilman Mitch O’Farrell, West Hollywood Mayor Lindsey Horvarth and others joined Project Angel Food Executive Director Richard Ayoub and 200 volunteers to deliver 1,900 meals to critically ill people and their caregivers throughout Los Angeles County on Thanksgiving Day. A thousand meals were delivered the day before with the help of new dads Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Modern Family) and Justin Mikita (producer).

Richard Ayoub, Executive Director of Project Angel Food said, “What I see by us all coming together to set an agency Thanksgiving delivery record is an outpouring community support that is palpable. My heart is filled with gratitude and my Thanksgiving is complete.”

Peter Porte and Juan Pablo Di Pace star in Paramount Network’s Dashing in December which simulcasts on the Paramount Network, Logo, Pop TV, and TV Land on December 13. They play love interests in the film and first met at Project Angel Food two years ago and said delivering for Project Angel Food has become a tradition. Juan Pablo said, “Project Angel Food really fills the most basic human need – food. And, they do so with love.”

Megan Hilty reminded us that with COVID-19, “Thanksgiving isn’t canceled we’re just doing things differently this year.” That sentiment was echoed by Lisa Foxx who got emotional thinking of being separated from her own family but finds comfort in serving others. “The people Project Angel Food serves can’t be with their families so to be able to connect with them and share an air hug tells me I’m in the right place.”

Other celebrities and elected officials delivering included Loni Love (The Real), Michael Nouri (Yellowstone), Stuart O’Keeffe (Celebrity Chef), Laura Pierson (Amazing Race winner), Peter Porte (Dashing in December) Gregory Zarian (West World), Lawrence Zarian (Hallmark Channel’s Home & Family), MitchO’Farrell (L.A. City Council), Lindsey Horvath (West Hollywood Mayor), John Erickson (West Hollywood City Council), Sepi Shyne (West Hollywood City Council).

Celebrities (wearing masks and gloves) loaded pre-arranged meals from a refrigerated van into volunteer drivers’ cars and sent them on their way to transport the delicious meals to between 6-8 clients. Many celebrities delivered as well. Because the holidays are especially isolating for those who are grappling with critical or terminal illness; the connection is as important as the meals themselves.

Project Angel Food’s Thanksgiving was sponsored by Glamazon, Amazon’s LGBTQ+ affinity group, and the Amazon Original Movie Uncle Frank. Meals were provided by The Stanley & Joyce Black Family Foundation.  A.J. Mayers from Amazon was part of the volunteer force.

Project Angel Food was established in 1989 in response to the AIDS crisis and provides medically-tailored meals to people who are living with life-threatening illnesses such as HIV/AIDS, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, etc. Because Project Angel Food clients are most vulnerable to COVID-19 or have COVID-19, the services have never been as vital as they are today. Pre-pandemic Project Angel Food served 1,500 people per day; that number has soared to 2,300 people per day – a 54% increase due to demand.
