Project Angel Food has been certified HIPAA compliant with a “Good” Fiducial Information Security Assessment Score (FISA). The certification, granted in September 2020, confirms that Project Angel Food’s processes to protect its clients’ private information are robust and effective. This is key as Project Angel Food continues to develop more healthcare partnerships.
In addition to the overall good rating, Project Angel Food received excellent ratings in the areas of risk management, information security governance, human resources security, asset management, access control, and compliance. The good FISA rating reflects an effort by the Project Angel Food management team to strengthen the organization’s HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996) protocols in response to new legislation and greater cyber threats that impact patient privacy throughout the healthcare industry.
The project to achieve this HIPAA compliance was supported by L.A. Care and the office of Sheila Kuehl, Supervisor for the 3rd District of Los Angeles County. L.A. Care Health Plan is an independent public agency created by the state of California to provide health coverage to low-income Los Angeles County residents. L.A. Care also engages with the community and works in partnership with others to elevate health care for all Angelenos.
Project Angel Food Executive Director Richard Ayoub says, “We are grateful to our partners at L.A. Care and in Sheila Kuehl’s office in the Los Angeles County 3rd District for understanding how important our clients’ right to privacy is, and for their funding in our analyzing and strengthening our systems and practices to ensure those rights.”
