Project Angel Food trustee Sheryl Lee Ralph and The D.I.V.A. Foundation presented the 30th Annual DIVAS Simply Singing! Concert & Telethon. DIVAS Simply Singing! powered by Gilead was broadcast live on Saturday, December 5th at 7 PM PST / 10 PM EST on KTLA5 Los Angeles, and virtually on ktla.com, divassimplysinging.com, and angelfood.org. A portion of the proceeds raised will benefit Project Angel Food.
DIVAS Simply Singing! is the longest consecutive running musical AIDS benefit in the United States. This Annual Fundraiser for HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention, honored actress, activist and longtime Project Angel Food supporter Sharon Stone and award-winning music icon Patti LaBelle. The concert also featured performances by Oleta Adams, Kalen Allen, J’Nai Bridges, The Clark Sisters, Gloria Gaynor, Anthony Hamilton, Lalah Hathaway, Thelma Houston, Kenny Lattimore, Miss Lawrence, Jenifer Lewis, Stephanie Mills, and Leslie Odom, Jr., Mj Rodriguez, Jody Watley.
The evening spotlighted the talents of D.I.V.A. (acronym for Divinely Inspired, Victoriously Aware), who are noteworthy individuals within the entertainment industry. The foundation stems from Sheryl’s deep concern for the lack of attention given to AIDS in the early years and now COVID-19 which has exposed the huge health disparities that exist for people of color.
DIVAS’ launched its 30th annual fundraiser with DIVAS Health Awareness Week: one-week of virtual presentations (due to COVID-19) to ensure the safety and wellbeing of its hosts and guests which began on World AIDS Day Tuesday, December 1 through Sunday, December 6.
