Celebrity stylist Chaz Dean showed up at Project Angel Food with his four angels Hunter and Spencer (born 3/2/08) and Bella and Riley (born 8/16/14) for the debut of the van he has sponsored for Project Angel Food for an entire year. The Ford transit van which features Chaz with his four dogs is driven by Tim Troester, who a full time driver for the past four years and is also a member of a country band. The van is driven 1,000 miles a month on a route that covers Downtown to Mid-city and South LA to Long Beach, and delivers 2,200 meals a week to 225 clients.
In addition to being an enormously successful celebrity hair stylist and entrepreneur, Chaz Dean is a generous philanthropist who is heavily involved in the LGBTQ and APLA community. He is also the Presenting Sponsor for this year’s Angel Awards on Saturday, August 19, the spectacular Annual Gala for Project Angel Food. His busy schedule doesn’t always allow him the time to volunteer, but he donates to the causes that resonate with him, and especially relates to organizations that provide the day to day needs required to survive. Chaz said,
“Most of us take for granted that we can quickly prepare a snack, breakfast, lunch, dinner for ourselves when we feel hungry. I can imagine asking for help is difficult, which is why Project Angel Food is so important. Many of the people Project Angel Food delivers to do not interact with anyone all day and the only people they see are the drivers, so they form a friendship with them. The staff and volunteers play a major role in the mission—not only do they prepare and pack all the food, they deliver to men, women and children who are in need, and form a connection with them that is everlasting.”
Chaz has always called his dogs his Angels because they are not only pets they are family to Chaz, the salon staff and his clients. People come from all over the world to visit the Chaz Dean Studio and the first question is “Where are the Angels.” They play a huge role in Chaz’s life, and the way they support him and the staff is reflected in the way Chaz loves to give back to people in need. When the opportunity arose to sponsor a van for Project Angel Food, he didn’t hesitate to step up. Discovering that his picture would appear on the van Chaz wanted his Angels aligned with Project Angel Food, hoping the image would put a smile on the face of everyone who encounters the van.
