What is Project Angel Food?

Project Angel Food is the only organization serving all of Los Angeles County dedicated to providing nutritious hot and frozen meals on a daily basis to people with HIV/AIDS and other serious illnesses.

 

 

What is Project Angel Food's budget?

We need almost $5 million this year to maintain the quality of our service and continue to provide meals for those in need. . Project Angel Food relies on individuals for the majority of funding. Additional funds are derived from foundations, corporations, and about 8% of our funding is derived from government contracts. How much of Project Angel Food's budget goes to program services?

Approximately 80% of the organization's budget goes directly to programs. The remaining 20% is directed to staffing, fundraising and other costs. Each $5.40 donation provides a meal to a person in need.

 

 

How many meals does Project Angel Food serve each day?

This year, on any given day, over 1,500 meals are delivered to people in the greater Los Angeles area. In 2008, Project Angel Food delivered more than 597,975 meals, averaging over 1,500 meals each day.

 

 

Who does Project Angel Food serve?

Approximately 66% of our clients are people of color. The number of women and children
Project Angel Food serves continues to grow. Currently, women  make up approximately 37% of all clients.

 

 

Are all of Project Angel Food's clients homebound?

No. Because of advances in medical treatments, some of Project Angel Food's clients are able to leave their homes. However, these individuals still rely on Project Angel Food to provide a strong nutritional foundation to support their healthcare. And, of course, there are still many clients who are homebound and have no option other than Project Angel Food for their nutritional needs.

 

 

How many volunteers assist Project Angel Food?

Volunteers are the heart of Project Angel Food. Over the course of a year, over 3,500 volunteers prepare and deliver food, plan special events and fundraising efforts, develop marketing and communications programs, and help to set policy for the organization. On a daily basis, more than 60 volunteers are needed to help prepare and deliver food.
